This historical piece features two Chinese lion statues in front of Tiantan Temple surrounded by grass. In 1860, British and French soldiers were ordered to burn the old Chinese Summer Palace Yuanmingyuan to the ground during the second Opium War. Together, they looted millions of artifacts and scraped every inch of gold they could find. If you look closely inside the eyes of the lions, I left some gold. They couldn't reach it and it was hard to scrape. At the core, this piece is about rebellion and resistance. It is about surviving during the darkest times and rebirth. It is about hope to fight. Let's fight together.
